A Calm & Sentimental Birthday
This year, my birthday looked a little different—and honestly, it was exactly what I needed.
After a busy weekend celebrating my daughter, I found myself craving something slower. Something calm. And that’s exactly what the day became.

🌅 A Slow, Gentle Start
I woke up a little later than usual (7am… which, for me, is late 😂). Not long after, my daughter climbed into bed with me, and we shared a quiet moment together.
My mum tried to encourage her to say “happy birthday,” but she wasn’t having it—typical toddler fashion. But instead, I got something even better: a lovely hug. And in that moment, it didn’t matter at all.
The morning felt calm. Reflective. Different from previous birthdays in the best way.
🎁 A Little Me Time
I kept things simple that morning. I had already eaten something light, so I skipped a bigger breakfast knowing we were heading out for lunch.
After a quick shower and some much-needed “me time,” I opened my presents. I received a few clothing pieces I had asked for from Temu—some summer items I’ll be sharing in upcoming Instagram reels.
One of my favourite gifts was a set of shower steamers. I’ve used them in the past, but this particular brand can be hung in the shower rather than placed on the floor, which I loved. It felt like such a small but thoughtful way to bring a bit of comfort into my routine.
🧸 Real Mum Life (Because It Never Stops)
Of course, it wouldn’t be a real mum day without a little chaos.
At one point, my daughter managed to empty what felt like every single toy she owns across the living room. My first thought? “Great… I’ll be tidying all of that later.”
But honestly, I just laughed. It’s such a normal part of our day-to-day life now.
Getting out the door didn’t take too long (thankfully). She had her usual little fuss, but we made it—eventually.
On the way, she thought we were heading to a breakfast spot we’d been to before, so arriving somewhere new was a lovely surprise for her.

🍽️ A Special Birthday Lunch at Riva

Riva restaurant menu
I had heard about Riva from another mum who recommended it, and it sounded like the perfect place for a birthday lunch.
While this was our first time dining in, my dad had actually picked up takeout from there during the pandemic when my mum celebrated her 60th birthday—so it felt a little special finally experiencing it properly together.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a beautiful fireplace, and the space was filled with natural light streaming through large windows. The atmosphere felt bright, calm, and relaxed, with subtle music playing in the background. It was also very family-friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

For starters, I ordered escargot (even though it was technically on the dinner menu), and they kindly made it for me. It was absolutely delicious—rich, garlicky, and exactly what I had been looking forward to.

For our mains, we had:
- Steak and frites (my personal favourite)
- A shawarma sandwich with truffle fries
- A classico pizza, which my daughter loved
She was so well-behaved throughout the meal, which made it feel even more special. It really felt like a treat—something a little different from our usual routine.

🎂 Cake, Family & Sweet Moments
On the way home, we made a quick stop at Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up a gift for a friend before heading back.
Waiting for me at home was a homemade chocolate ganache cake that my mum had lovingly prepared. She makes me a cake every year, and it’s something I truly look forward to.
Chocolate ganache is one of my favourites, and this one did not disappoint.
We sang happy birthday, and this time—my daughter actually joined in. That moment? That was the one that stayed with me. It was simple, but it meant everything.
🏡 A Cozy Evening In
The rest of the evening was low-key, just how I wanted it.
We relaxed at home, watching The Jungle Book—my daughter’s choice, one of her absolute favourites. While she played and enjoyed her toys, I found myself scrolling for inspiration for my Instagram and blog—looking at fashion ideas and reel content.
It was peaceful. Easy. Comfortable.
💭 A Birthday to Remember
This marked my third birthday as a single mum.
And honestly? It felt perfect.
Not because of anything extravagant, but because of the simplicity of it all. Spending time with my family, enjoying a beautiful meal, and sharing those small, meaningful moments—like my daughter singing happy birthday.
If I had to describe this birthday in one word, it would be: sentimental.
And right now, that’s exactly what I need.
