There’s something not often talked about when it comes to blogging — and that’s building something for yourself while you’re just trying to get through the day. Because the truth is, I’m not sitting in a quiet café with a laptop and endless time. I’m building a blog between daycare runs, work shifts, dinner time, and bedtime routines. Somewhere in the middle of what honestly feels like survival mode most days.

And maybe you are too.

What Survival Mode Actually Looks Like

Right now, life is structured — but full.

My day starts in mum mode. Mornings are spent with my daughter, getting her ready and out the door. By 8am, we’re heading to daycare. From there, I go straight into my workday, 9am to 3pm.

Then it’s straight back into mum mode again.

I pick her up, we get home around 4pm, and before I know it, I’m making dinner for 5pm. The evening is all about her — playing, entertaining, being present — until bedtime at 8pm.

And then… I finally get a moment.

That’s when the blogging happens.

Finding Time Where There Isn’t Any

There’s no perfect routine here. No aesthetic “content creator” schedule.

It’s squeezing in writing after bedtime when I’m already tired.
It’s opening my laptop on weekends if we’re not busy.
It’s trying to hold onto an idea long enough to actually turn it into a post.

And even then, it doesn’t always go to plan.

Sometimes I sit down and my mind is blank.
Sometimes I start something and don’t finish it.
Sometimes my daughter just wants my attention — and of course, she comes first.

The Mental Battle No One Sees

I won’t lie — there are a lot of moments where I question what I’m doing.

When your following isn’t growing quickly…
When you’re putting time into something that isn’t giving much back (yet)…
When you see other bloggers thriving…

It’s hard not to compare.

I do it all the time.

And sometimes it really does make me feel like giving up.

Why I Haven’t Given Up

Even with all of that — the doubt, the slow growth, the lack of time — I’m still here.

Because blogging has become more than just “something to try.”

It’s:

  • A creative outlet

  • A space that’s mine

  • Something I’m building for me

And honestly? Seeing even a small increase in viewership means everything. It reminds me that someone, somewhere, is reading.

That it’s not pointless.

That maybe it’s growing… slowly, but surely.

The Reality of Staying Consistent

The hardest part? Coming up with ideas.

When your brain is already full from work, parenting, and just life in general — creativity doesn’t always show up on demand.

Consistency looks different here.

It’s not perfectly scheduled content.
It’s not always “on time.”
It’s showing up when I can, how I can.

And learning to be okay with that.

A Little Bit of Guilt, A Lot of Determination

Do I feel guilty sometimes? A little.

Trying to build something for myself while being a mum can feel like I’m splitting my energy.

But I also know this matters.

Not just for me — but for what I’m trying to create.

What I’m Hoping This Becomes

I don’t need overnight success.

What I do want… is to build something meaningful.

A blog that:

  • Grows into a supportive space

  • Connects with other single mums

  • Feels honest and real

Somewhere someone can read and think, “Okay, it’s not just me.”

If You’re in This Season Too

If you’re a mum sitting there with an idea, but no time…

Try anyway.

There’s no harm in starting. No harm in doing what you can, when you can.

It won’t be perfect.
It won’t be consistent.
It might feel slow.

But it’s yours.

And that counts for something.
