As the weather slowly starts to warm up, I find myself naturally shifting things around the house. Lighter mornings, brighter evenings, and the subtle feeling that winter is finally loosening its grip. That change always signals one thing for me — it’s time for a wardrobe reset.

And this time, it was my daughter’s turn.

She had no idea it was happening.

Why I Decided It Was Time

The weather has been slowly getting warmer, and I’d already started noticing that I was reaching for lighter layers for her more often. Winter sweaters weren’t being used as much, and I found myself constantly sorting through her drawers trying to pull out more spring-appropriate pieces.

So instead of waiting for it to fully switch over, I decided to get ahead of it and do a full seasonal reset of her closet.

It felt like the right time to swap everything over.

Doing It While She Was at Daycare

I did the whole reset while she was at daycare, which honestly made the process a lot smoother.

I’ve also been slowly removing outgrown items over time, so it wasn’t one overwhelming purge. It was more of a gradual adjustment that I’d been working on whenever I noticed something no longer fit or wasn’t being worn.

Because of that, the actual reset didn’t take very long.

The Sorting Process

I kept things very simple and practical. Everything was sorted by type:

  • tops
  • bottoms
  • dresses
  • layers

As I went through each section, I found quite a few outgrown items — more than I expected, actually. It always surprises me how quickly children move through sizes without you fully noticing in day-to-day life.

I set aside anything too small, anything too seasonal for winter, and anything that just wasn’t being worn anymore.

Moving Into Spring and Summer Pieces

With winter items being packed away, I started bringing in the lighter pieces.

Think:

  • t-shirts
  • capris
  • shorts
  • dresses
  • and plenty of cardigans for layering

Layers are still essential at this time of year, especially when mornings can be cool but afternoons feel like summer is just around the corner.

I try to make sure everything can mix and match easily, so getting dressed is simple and stress-free.

Organisation That Works for Us

Right now, I organise her clothes by type rather than outfits or colour.

It keeps things easy to see and easy to grab, especially on busy mornings.

I also rotate her clothes seasonally, which makes a big difference in keeping her wardrobe manageable rather than overwhelming.

Labels have been a small but helpful addition too — nothing fancy, just enough to keep everything in its place.

A Quiet, Reflective Reset

Because she was at daycare, the process was calm and uninterrupted. No little hands pulling things back out or changing my system halfway through.

Still, there was a slightly nostalgic feeling while sorting through everything. Seeing how quickly she’s outgrowing certain sizes is a reminder of just how fast this stage goes.

Even when it’s just a practical task, there’s always that quiet awareness in the background — they’re growing so quickly.

Final Thoughts

With the closet reset, everything feels a bit lighter and more ready for the season ahead.

Summer will be here before I know it, and I’m sure I’ll be doing another round of sorting sooner than expected.

The reality of it is simple: they grow, and you end up donating more than you keep. It’s just part of the process.

But for now, everything is organised, seasonal, and easy to manage — and that’s enough.
