Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

This week is already feeling a lot quieter than the last—and to be perfectly honest, I’m absolutely not complaining. My daughter is finally back at daycare after a full week off, and the house has gone from high-energy chaos to eerily calm in about 0.5 seconds. (Honestly, I half expect to hear a toy phone start playing by itself at this point.)

If you read my last post, you’ll know we made a family trip to the Toronto Zoo during her week off. It sounded like a lovely idea—and to be fair, it was! We saw giraffes, penguins, and even caught a glimpse of the polar bear (from a safe distance—he did not look like he wanted guests). But it also involved a great deal of walking, several snack breaks (mostly for her, occasionally for me), and the kind of enthusiasm only a toddler can summon when faced with a gift shop full of stuffed animals. Let’s just say, we didn’t leave empty-handed.

The rest of the week was a blur of playgrounds, puzzle pieces, and endless rounds of pretend play—at one point I was a Paw Patrol character, a dog, and a lost kitten all before lunch. Toddlers have range. It’s amazing how much energy a small child can pack into a single day, and how quickly you start to fantasise about a silent room and a hot cup of tea by day three.

So now, with a bit of breathing space and a slightly tidier living room, I’m easing into the week feeling (almost) refreshed. There’s a to-do list waiting for me, of course, but I’m embracing the quiet moments while they last.

Here’s to a calmer, more balanced week ahead—whatever yours may look like!

The Reality of Toddler Growth Spurts

If you’ve ever looked at your toddler in the morning and thought, “Did you grow overnight?” — you’re not alone. Dressing toddlers is a sport in itself, but when growth spurts hit and their body seems to be operating on two different timelines, things get… interesting.

My daughter turned three in March, and while her energy levels scream teenager, her wardrobe is another story. She’s petite, so her bottom half still fits nicely into 2T sizes, but her tops? Solidly into size 3 territory. Shopping feels like a game show where the prize is mismatched outfits and mild parental frustration.

A Few Things I’ve Learned (the hard way)

  1. Buy Separates, Not Sets
Matching sets are adorable, but rarely do both pieces fit at the same time. Instead, I grab mix-and-match separates—2T leggings, size 3 tops, and the occasional “why did I buy this?” item.

  2. Stretch is Your Best Friend
Elastic waistbands, leggings, joggers, and tunic tops are gold. They stretch, they move, and they save me from wondering if she’s secretly doing yoga in her jeans.

  3. Layers for the Win
In-between sizes = in-between weather readiness. A cardigan that fits now will still work in a few months, even if her arms start doing their best Stretch Armstrong impression.

  4. Shop With Seasons and Growth in Mind
I once bought the perfect spring dress—except it fit her in February and fell off her shoulders by June. Now I think a season ahead. Slightly roomy now = just right later.

  5. Shoes Are Another Story
Toddler feet are like mushrooms—they grow overnight. I stick to one or two pairs that are practical, slightly roomy, and adjustable (bonus points if they survive more than three months).

Embracing the Chaos (and the Cute Moments)

Some days, dressing my daughter is a test of patience, creativity, and folding skills. But it’s also heartwarming to see her style starting to peek through—yes, even when that style includes sparkly boots, dinosaur leggings, and a tutu on top. (Honestly, I respect the confidence.)

If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: don’t fight the growth spurts, just work around them. Toddlers are busy learning, growing, and attempting to zip their jackets by themselves (bless their determined little hearts). The least we can do is dress them in outfits that actually move with them.

And when all else fails? Just let them wear what they want. Mismatched socks and all. After all, confidence is the best accessory—and toddlers have plenty of that.
