Meeting the New Year with Intention

I’m writing this blog as I look out at the icy roads Southern Ontario recently received. My daughter is giggling while playing with some of her new Christmas toys, the bright colors and little sounds filling the room. Meanwhile, my mum is preparing a delicious lunch, the smell of roasting vegetables and herbs drifting through the kitchen.

Dear 2026,

I don’t know exactly what you’ll bring, but I plan to meet you with patience, understanding, and perseverance. Last year taught me a lot about holding space for myself, my daughter, and the small, meaningful moments that truly matter. This year, I want to carry forward the lessons that have grounded me. At the same time, I hope to leave behind the chaos and stress that weighed me down.

How I Want Life to Feel

This year, I hope my life feels stable rather than stressful and gentle rather than rushed. I want mornings filled with laughter, watching my daughter explore and learn without feeling like the clock is chasing us. I also want to stay present during the small joys — the giggles over a puzzle, her delight at new discoveries, and the quiet pride in her little accomplishments.

These moments remind me of what truly matters. I want to ask you, my readers: what moments make your life feel most alive? Which small joys will you carry into the new year?

What I Hope My Daughter Learns

Above all, I hope my daughter grows up with a well-rounded mindset — confident, curious, kind, and resilient. She can learn the value of patience, perseverance, and understanding by seeing me live these qualities every day. I also hope she witnesses how I embrace life with calm and purpose. Choosing her passions, her happiness, and herself is not selfish — it’s necessary.

Through her eyes, I am reminded of what really matters: nurturing, love, curiosity, and kindness. What values do you hope to model for the children in your life, or even for yourself this year?

My Intentions for This Year

I am asking for confidence, stability, meaningful work, and financial breathing room. I don’t expect everything to fall perfectly into place, but I hope these things allow my daughter and me to feel safe, nurtured, and free to grow. In addition, I want to show her that life is about balance — loving fiercely, laughing often, and keeping sight of what really matters.

Reflecting and Inviting You In

A new year is the perfect time to set plans, release what no longer serves us, and focus on what truly matters. I invite you, my readers, to reflect:

  • What do you want your life to feel like this year?

  • Which small joys and meaningful moments will you carry forward?

  • What values or lessons are most important for you or your children to learn in 2026?

Here’s to a year filled with laughter, growth, and quiet victories. Here’s to stability, understanding, and a well-rounded life. Let’s watch our loved ones blossom while we continue to bloom alongside them.

With hope and intention,
Gem
