Summer with young children doesn’t always have to involve expensive activities, big day trips, or complicated planning. Sometimes the best memories come from the simplest routines — packing a bag, grabbing some snacks, and heading somewhere your child already loves.

For us, that place has become Rotary Park Brockville.

Since moving to the Brockville area in 2024, I’ve slowly discovered different places that make everyday life a little easier. Rotary Park has become one of our favourite summer outings, especially because my daughter is what I would definitely call a water baby. When the temperatures rise, she is happiest when she can run, splash, and get completely soaked.

What started as a simple trip to a splash pad has turned into one of our little summer traditions.

When we first moved to the area, I wasn’t necessarily searching for parks or splash pads. My daughter was still quite young, and outings looked a little different at that stage.

As she got older, especially once she became more interested in exploring and playing independently, finding easy places to visit became much more important.

That’s where Rotary Park Brockville became one of our regular summer stops.

Located across from Metro in Brockville, Rotary Park is an easy place to visit. There is parking nearby, plenty of open space, pathways to explore, and of course, the main attraction during the summer months — the splash pad.

For a mum looking for a simple outing, it checks a lot of boxes.

Why Rotary Park Has Become Part of Our Summer Routine

The biggest reason we keep going back is simple: my daughter loves the water.

She loves getting soaked, running through the splash pad, and enjoying every minute of being outside on a hot summer day. As soon as we arrive, she usually heads straight for the water.

Once she gets started, we can easily spend a couple of hours there.

As a mum, I love watching her enjoy herself, but I also love seeing how much confidence she has gained over the years. When we first started going, she was much younger and needed more help and supervision.

Now that she’s four, she is much more independent.

She knows what she wants to do, she explores more confidently, and she enjoys the freedom of playing while I sit nearby and watch.

One thing I’ve learned as a parent is that children grow up quickly. Sometimes we can be so focused on planning the perfect outing or making sure everything is organized that we forget to simply let them enjoy the moment.

Watching my daughter run through the splash pad, laughing and having fun, is a reminder that these simple moments are the ones worth remembering.

What I Pack for a Rotary Park Brockville Visit as a Single Mum

If there is one thing I’ve learned about taking a young child anywhere, it’s that I probably pack too much.

I’m sure many parents can relate.

My Rotary Park bag usually includes:

  • Snacks
  • Drinks
  • Towels
  • A change of clothes for my daughter
  • Sunscreen
  • Extra outfits (because water and children always seem to go together)

When she was younger, I brought even more because toddlers require so much extra stuff. Now that she is four, our outings are definitely easier because she doesn’t need quite as much.

Although I still tend to pack those “just in case” items.

You never know when they’ll come in handy.

A Free Summer Outing That Works for Single Mums

One thing I appreciate about Rotary Park is how manageable it feels as a single mum.

Taking a child out alone can sometimes require more planning. You’re thinking about everything from what to pack, how long you’ll stay, snacks, clothing changes, and making sure your child is comfortable.

Having a place you already know makes things much easier.

I know what to expect when we arrive. I know there is parking, I know where we can sit, and I know my daughter will have fun.

There is no pressure to spend money or plan an entire day around the outing.

Sometimes we just need to get out of the house, enjoy some fresh air, and let our children burn off some energy.

Rotary Park gives us exactly that.

Adding a Little Treat at Chez Marty’s

One of the newer additions near Rotary Park is Chez Marty’s, which opened in September 2025.

Having somewhere nearby to grab a drink, pastry, or ice cream is a nice addition to the area. Before this, there weren’t many options close by if you wanted to grab something after spending time at the splash pad.

When we do stop there, it feels like an extra little treat after a fun morning or afternoon.

So far, my favourites have been the chocolate croissant and cheese croissant, and of course, ice cream is always a hit.

It’s not something we do every single time, but occasionally it turns a simple splash pad visit into a little summer outing.

Things to Know Before Visiting Rotary Park Brockville

If you’re planning a visit, here are a few things I’ve noticed from our trips:

Parking

There is parking available nearby, although it is not a huge lot.

Space

The park has a nice open layout, with room to sit and watch children play.

Splash Pad

The splash pad is the main attraction during summer and provides plenty of entertainment for young children.

Seating

There are picnic tables available, although I would recommend bringing a chair or blanket if you prefer your own comfortable spot.

Shade

There is limited shade, so sunscreen, hats, and water are important on hotter days.

Washrooms

There are public washroom facilities available, although they are not always the cleanest, so it’s something to keep in mind when planning your visit.

Why Simple Summer Memories Matter

As a single mum, I’ve learned that creating memories doesn’t always require expensive activities or big plans.

Sometimes it’s as simple as watching your child laugh in a splash pad on a hot summer day.

For my daughter, Rotary Park means summer. It’s a place she recognizes, enjoys, and looks forward to visiting.

As the summer season comes to an end and the weather gets cooler, I already know there will be a question coming:

“Can we go to the splash pad?”

And even when the answer is that it’s too cold, I love that this little tradition has become something she remembers.

These simple afternoons — the ones where we pack snacks, get wet, and spend time together — are the moments I hope she carries with her.
