There’s something about spring that just gently pulls you back outside.
After months of snow, freezing mornings, and having to properly think about going out, it suddenly feels… easier. The air feels softer, the days are longer, and going for a walk doesn’t feel like a task anymore — it actually feels nice.
Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit more curious before heading out. Not in a big, planned way — just that feeling of “let’s see what’s changed today.” And every time we go, there’s always something new waiting.
By the time we get back, I’m usually a bit tired (and definitely in need of a drink), but it’s always worth it.
Walking at Toddler Pace
Walking with a toddler really does change everything.
My daughter isn’t one for picking up sticks or collecting random bits — she’s more about just walking and taking everything in. She loves looking around, noticing what’s going on, and just enjoying being outside.
And because of that, I’ve started doing the same.
I’ve noticed the smell of flowers more.
I’ve noticed the grass finally coming through after what felt like endless snow.
I’ve noticed how much lighter everything feels.
It’s funny how something as simple as a walk can slow you down in the best way.
Our Go-To Spring Walks
If you’re local to Brockville, Mallorytown, or Prescott, there are so many lovely places to get outside. Some are easy and relaxed, and others a little more adventurous.
Here are a few I’ve tried myself:
🌿 Mac Johnson Wildlife Area
This is a really good all-rounder. There are different trails to choose from, so you can keep it easy or explore a bit more depending on the day.
🌊 St. Lawrence Park
This is one of those easy, no-pressure walks. If you’re not in the mood for anything too intense, this is perfect. You can just stroll along the water, take it all in, and let the kids wander a bit.
🌲 Mallorytown Landing
This one has a special place for me — especially walking along the Parkway at the bottom of Mallorytown. There’s just something about the waterfront views that feels really calming. It’s part of Thousand Islands National Park, and it really does feel like a little escape.
🌼 Charleston Lake Provincial Park
I remember coming here a few years ago and feeling a bit lost trying to figure out where to go at first. But once we found the beach, it was so worth it. Such a lovely spot to just walk, sit, and enjoy the view.
🚶♀️ Prescott Waterfront Trail
Another easy one, especially if you just want fresh air without too much effort. It’s peaceful, simple, and perfect for those days when you just need to get out of the house.
🌳 Jones Creek Trails
We went here recently, and I’ll be honest — it’s not the easiest walk. Some of the hills are quite steep, and going down them felt a little scary at times. Definitely one to be mindful of if you’re unsteady on your feet or walking with little ones. But if you’re up for it, it’s still a really nice trail.
🌿 A New One to Try
I was recently told about Kendrick’s Park by another mum, and it looks so lovely. I haven’t been yet, but it’s definitely on our list for this spring. I always love finding new little spots like that.
Getting Out Isn’t Always Easy
I won’t pretend I always feel motivated to go.
Especially in the winter, it can feel like such a mission — getting dressed, getting my daughter ready, dealing with the cold… sometimes it just feels easier to stay in.
But spring makes such a difference.
It feels less like effort and more like something you want to do. And every time we go out, I always end up thinking, “I’m so glad we did that.”
Real Life Moments (Because It’s Not Always Perfect)
Of course, not every outing goes to plan.
Last year, we planned a full day trip to Sandbanks Provincial Park. We packed everything, got there excited for a day in the sun… and ended up being turned away because we hadn’t booked in advance.
My daughter was so upset, and it definitely wasn’t the day we had imagined.
But looking back, it was a bit of a reminder — sometimes the best days aren’t the big, planned ones. Sometimes it’s just a simple walk close to home, no pressure, no expectations.
(Although this year… I will definitely be booking ahead 😅)
A Little Reminder
You don’t need a full plan.
You don’t need to go far.
Sometimes it’s just about getting outside, having a little wander, and seeing what you come across.
Because spring has a way of surprising you — in the simplest, quietest ways.
And honestly, those are usually the moments that stick the most 💛
