Work–life balance looks different for everyone, but as single mums, we often feel like we’re juggling three roles at once — parent, homemaker, and, in my case, blogger. Some days feel calm and steady, and others feel like everything depends on us alone. If you’re in that season too, you’re not alone.

Even though my life isn’t wild or particularly exciting, it is full. And that fullness has taught me that balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly — it’s about finding small habits that make daily life smoother, lighter, and more manageable.

This is what has truly helped me, and what I hope can help you too.

The Rhythm of Everyday Life

At the moment, I’m not working a traditional job outside the home — my blog is where I focus much of my attention, and to be honest, it feels like a full-time job on its own. Some days flow easily, but others change quickly, especially when the weather turns and my daughter needs to spend the whole day at home with me. Those days can stretch you thin, and balance feels more like survival.

But what I’ve learned is that balance isn’t about a perfect schedule. It’s about rhythms that support you — the kind that adjust when life does.

Weekends: The Smooth Part of the Week

Weekends tend to be when life feels the easiest. Getting out of the house, even for something small, changes everything. A quick outing, a drive, or a stop at one of our favourite spots helps my daughter burn off energy and gives me a mental refresh too. It’s a reminder that balance can be as simple as stepping outside when everything indoors starts to feel overwhelming.

Small Habits That Make a Big Difference

Even when life feels unpredictable, there are a few routines that keep me grounded:

Early Mornings for Myself

I wake up at 5:20am most days. Not because I want to — but because it’s the only quiet window I reliably get. That early morning stillness makes a huge difference. Whether I write, plan, or simply sip a warm drink, those minutes belong to me, and that’s rare as a single mum.

Calendars & Reminders

Staying organised isn’t glamorous, but it saves me on the days when everything feels scattered. I rely heavily on calendars, reminders, and simple routines to keep life from feeling chaotic.

Budget-Friendly Balance

Balance doesn’t need to cost anything. Most of my go-tos are free: outdoor time, routines, early mornings, quiet evenings, and simple breaks. Even self-care doesn’t need to be expensive — sometimes it’s a Starbucks treat, sometimes it’s just five quiet minutes to breathe.

tle Things That Bring Joy

When I’m overwhelmed or creatively drained, I lean into what feels comforting:

  • a bit of quiet time while my daughter plays

  • scrolling Instagram for inspiration

  • sneaking in a treat drink when I can

They’re small, but they genuinely refill my cup.

Rural Living & Balance

Living rurally comes with its own challenges and benefits. Access to amenities isn’t always perfect, but it has a peacefulness that really supports a slower pace. That calm backdrop makes it easier to reset, breathe, and reconnect — even on the tough days. I won’t drone on about it, but the quieter environment does help create a sense of balance that’s hard to find in busier places.

What Balance Really Looks Like

Balance, especially for single mums, isn’t a perfect routine or a spotless home. It’s a mix of:

  • showing up every day

  • accepting the days that don’t go to plan

  • finding small rhythms that help you feel grounded

  • taking joy in simple moments

  • and giving yourself grace for the rest

We don’t have to juggle everything flawlessly — we just need enough space to catch our breath.

And if you’re reading this, doing your best every day, then you’re already balancing more than you realise.

Finding balance as a single mum isn’t about achieving perfection — it’s about creating a life that feels steady, supported, and true to you. Some days you’ll feel on top of everything, and other days you’ll simply be getting through the moment in front of you. Both are okay.

What matters is that you’re building routines that work for your life, choosing what brings you peace, and recognising the things that make your days easier. Balance will look different for every mum, but the fact that you’re trying, adjusting, and showing up each day means you’re already doing an incredible job.

So here’s your reminder: you are not just juggling it all — you’re carrying it with strength, love, and resilience. And that is more than enough.
